One week from today, Jericho Prime will be released.
September 8, 2026, has felt distant for a long time. Now it is suddenly almost here.
For much of its existence, Jericho Prime was something intangible—outlines, research, drafts, revisions, notes, and countless files on a computer. Even after the manuscript was finished, there were still edits to make, formatting decisions to review, covers to finalize, and all the other details involved in turning a story into a published book.
Then, several weeks ago, the first proof copies arrived.
For the first time, I was able to hold Jericho Prime in my hands as an actual novel.
That was a remarkable milestone.
There is something different about seeing a story as a physical book after spending so much time with it on a screen. The pages, the cover, the weight of it—it suddenly becomes something separate from the process of writing it.
I am very pleased with how the finished book turned out, and everything is now in place for release day.
So now I wait.
And, of course, keep writing.
While Jericho Prime prepares to begin its journey into the world, I have already continued mine into Book 2 of The Vespera Revelation, Obsidian. Writing the next book while waiting for the first one to release is an interesting experience. Part of my attention is still on the story I spent years creating, while another part is already several chapters deeper into what comes next.
But for the next week, Jericho Prime gets to have the spotlight.
The story begins in 2191 with humanity's first journey beyond the solar system: a voyage of roughly 140 years to the distant world of Vespera.
Most of the crew will spend that journey in hibernation, waking only for brief duty rotations while the ship's artificial intelligence watches over the mission in their absence.
As the decades pass, however, small inconsistencies begin to emerge.
Crew members awaken to changes no one remembers making. Questions linger across generations of duty rotations. And the intelligence entrusted with safeguarding the mission begins to exhibit signs of something its creators never anticipated.
The greatest mystery isn't waiting on Vespera. It's already aboard Jericho Prime.
I have lived with this story for a long time.
In one week, it belongs to the readers.
